1946 “Operation Sleepless” Video

“Operation Sleepless” was professionally filmed in color (without sound) aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CVB-42 in May 1946 and is 42 minutes in length. An Atlantic Operation with the 8th Fleet (including sister ship USS Midway CVB-41) and Naval Air Group 75 aboard with F4U and SB2C aircraft, it includes scenes of launches, recoveries, ships alongside, plane arming, antiaircraft gunnery exercises, replenishment and refueling, hi-line personnel transfers and a grand entrance to New York Harbor. Admiral Marc Mitscher and his Chief-of-Staff Commodore Arleigh Burke are shown on the bridge.
