In January 1958, after finishing Boot Camp at San Diego, I reported to my first school at Norman, Oklahoma to learn the fundamentals of Naval Aviation. My next stop was the Aviation Photo School at Pensacola, Florida in March. I reported aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Franklin D Roosevelt CVA-42 in June 1958. After 2 Cruises in the Mediterranean I transferred, in July 1960, to the Naval Support Activity Photo Lab in Naples, Italy where I served until March 1961.  My next (and last) duty station was with the Fleet Camera Party (Atlantic) in Norfolk, VA. until my seperation from Active Duty in Nov. 1961.

I am currently retired from the telecommunications industry, volunteer aboard the Historical Ship SS Lane Victory in Los Angeles Harbor and serve with honor as the Secretary of the USS FDR Reunion Association.

If you wish to contact me regarding this site or any matter relating to the USS Franklin D Roosevelt please email me at larryb442@verizon.net.

There are several websites that are specific to the USS FDR. One is our sister site  and another is the Reunion association site. Both are shown under the “Links” heading along with other interesting sites.

I hope you enjoy your history tour of this website.
